Early Years
Term: Spring
Inquiry: How Does Your Garden Grow

During Spring A we were looking at ‘Handa’s Surprise’, tasting different tropical fruits and doing lots of fruit printing in the creative area, drawing Handa’s Fruit basket with oil pastels and learning about adjectives which we then used to describe the fruit. In Maths we have been learning about ‘one more’ and ‘one less’ and we finished the first Spring half term with an African drumming workshop which the children loved.
In Spring B, we found a mysterious package full of different types of seeds and a letter from the fairies asking us to help them to grow our garden. We have been learning all about planting and growing and have started planting lots of salads, vegetables and flowers in our outdoor area. We had a wonderful visit from LoubyLou where we had interactive storytelling workshops about fairies and giants! We also took a trip to the Garden Centre where we bought some more seeds, flowers and vegetables to grow and learned how to care for each one.
In Talk for Writing we are looking at a non-fiction text; a set of instructions, ‘How to Plant Cress Seeds’. We have followed the instructions to plant our cress seeds and we have been observing how they grow. In maths we have been looking at ten frames and we will be doing some measure as we track how our plants grow.
