Reception

Welcome to Dosbath Derbyn

Here at Springwood we have one reception class with up to 30 children. We work closely with the nursery as a happy, healthy early years team!

In Dosbath Derbyn we stay all day and we learn and discover lots of new things through our inquiry led curriculum. You will experience lots of learning areas within reception, including our creation station, role play, writing area, construction, numeracy, book nook, calm zone and investigation station which can be accessed freely throughout the indoor and outdoor classrooms.

We also have a digital area in the classroom where the learners can use iPad and other technology to assist their learning. Our outdoor classroom, has climbing and balancing equipment, den building, water and sand play, a writing shed, and of course our muddy Kitchen is always available to whip up something fantastically muddy!

We will learn about healthy lifestyles and developing independence skills. We have a healthy snack in school each day where the children are encouraged to try a range of healthy foods. We do ask for a donation of £1 per week or £5 per half term to allow us to provide this snack. Indoor PE sessions are on a Monday when your child can wear their kit to school. Please encourage your child to get dressed on their own as much as possible this helps when toileting and getting changed for PE. Unless your child can tie their own laces, we would prefer them to wear Velcro fastenings.

We hope your child will have a fantastic time in Dosbath Derbyn, we feel that our caring staff and wonderful inviting classrooms will provide a safe and happy place to learn and grow.

Autumn Term - Inquiry: Our Diverse World

During Autumn term we have talked about where we live and where we all come from. We talked about our similarities and differences and about how we all belong together.

We included what we talked about when we wrote a song!

We have tasted welsh cakes, visited a welsh castle and saw Santa!

Following a visit from animal experiences who brought lots of lovely animals to visit us we went to TyFroebel where we used their wood working area to cut and hammer wood to make owls.

In Talk For Writing we read The Three Little Pigs and The Nativity Story which we’ve used to tell our Christmas Story.  In Numeracy this term we have learned to recognise dot patterns by subitising and ordered, compared and made numbers 6-10 using numicon.

Next Term, our inquiry will be Wonderful Wales and Beyond. We will be looking at different Languages and preparing for a Welsh performance.

In Talk for writing we will be reading and learning a Tadpoles Promise.
