Year 4

Spring Term - Wonderful Wales and Beyond

During Spring term, we have had a range of opportunities to apply our skills throughout different experiences. These have included; Cardiff Met sessions, Glee club visiting the O2 in London and a visit to the local library  In literacy, we have been focusing on our new text, 'New World' and focused our writing a quest recount using our writer’s toolkit. In numeracy, we have focused on the statistics involving creating and interpretating data in a variety of different ways.

We have also started to look at multiplication using arrays and are beginning to progress onto using the grid method to multiply 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers.  Finally, during our inquiry, we started exploring 'Wonderful Wales and Beyond'. Our main focus in this inquiry, was to gain a greater understanding into our own country Wales as well as understand how we can use our own language to communicate. We have also been able to recite a Welsh poem and create Welsh-themed origami to sell at our Enterprise. We were able to make a profit of £25.15, which is amazing!

Next Term, our inquiry is ‘Wonderful Wales and Beyond’. We will be looking at how our natural world is diverse and dynamic and how it is influenced by processes and human actions.  In Talk 4 Writing, we will be reciting the text ‘The Canal'. This text is a warning story. In Numeracy, we will be working on multiplication, division and 2D and 3D shapes.

Our PE days will continue to be on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon.
Homework will continue to be handed out on a Friday and it will need to be returned back to the class teacher the following Friday.

Book bags will be changed as soon as the book bags are returned to school.
Class Dojo winner is announced on a Friday.

Our main focus in this inquiry, was to look at Judaism and the story behind it. We have also been able to see the similarities between both Judaism and Christianity, which has allowed children to gain a greater insight into the different beliefs that individuals may have.

Next Term, our inquiry is ‘Wonderful Wales and Beyond’. We will be looking at how languages connect us and developing our entrepreneurial skills. In Talk 4 Writing, we will be reciting the text ‘New World’. This text is a recount of our fiction text ‘Elf Road’. In Numeracy, we will be working on multiplication and division skills.

Healthier habits, healthier futures

This term, we will be exploring the core purpose of becoming healthy, confident individuals as this is crucial for their overall development. It's wonderful that the children have had the opportunity to engage in swimming lessons, as it not only promotes physical activity but also emphasises the importance of hygiene, which is essential for maintaining good health.

Another part of our inquiry this term, will be focusing on the significance of having a balanced diet and how this may then be implemented in a professional setting. All children will have the opportunity to research existing burger options to see if they can create healthier alternatives. They will then progress on designing and selecting their own recipes and finally creating their very own cooking tutorials for their recipe.

Y4 being exposed to a dance workshop run by Campany J Dance Company. They absolutely loved it!

Food Tasting

Chef (Jon Quinto) visited Y4 today to help us to understand what the role of a chef is and what it entails.

Performance of Understanding

This term, Y4 children have looked at a balanced diet, food types, learned about hygiene, and taken part in swimming lessons. As a class, they decided that they wanted to create a balanced alternative to a recipe that was already existing. Fortunately enough, Gordon Ramsey contacted me to ask us to create a healthy balanced burger for his new restaurant in Cardiff. Of course, they were extremely enthusiastic about the challenge and as a result, have created cooking videos for Gordon Ramsey to watch and select his favourite video. The winning recipe will appear as an option on his menu in his new restaurant. Here are all the cooking videos that have been entered into the competition.
