Year 2

Autumn Term - Inquiry: Our Diverse World

During this term, we have been celebrating our differences and recognising that some people have different beliefs. We enjoyed exploring the Hindu religion, learning all about the different gods and goddesses and even created our own rangoli patterns. We visited a Hindu temple to have a better understanding of where, when and how Hindus worship. It was such a fun trip! We have also been exploring Christianity and the Christmas story. We loved working together to present our learning in our class assembly. It was so much fun practising different songs and even a Bollywood dance!

In our literacy, we have been writing instructions on how to trap a monster and retelling the story of Rama and Sita. We have also been working hard to blend and segment our sounds during our phonics and reading sessions. In maths, we have been using different equipment to add and subtract different numbers. We have also been using our Tea Shop role play areas to apply our number skills.

Next Term, our inquiry is ‘Wonderful Wales and Beyond’. We will be exploring what makes Wales great, thinking about the culture, language and people. We will also be comparing Wales to other countries throughout the world, looking at what is similar and what is different. As well as exploring Wales and the Welsh culture, we will be working in groups to plan, design and create an item for our school enterprise project. Look out for our item at the school Eisteddfod!

In literacy, we will continue practising our sounds and writing a “Defeating the Monster” tale using our Talk for Writing text “The Queens Tea.” In maths, we will be looking at multiplication and division, using our skills to say, draw and show our thinking.

PE days - Tuesday and Thursday

Please bring your book bags into school everyday. Books will be changed weekly.

Welcome to Year 2

We are so happy to be back in school after the summer holidays and ready to learn! This half term, our inquiry is ‘Healthy Me, Healthy You,’ where we have been learning all about the human body, balanced diets and why it is important to look after our bodies, hearts and minds. We have be enjoying plenty of fun workshops and experiences to help us learn.
