It’s been a busy half term in Year 5! This half term, we have been learning about our diverse world. As part of our inquiry we visited a Mosque and church and to learn more about Islam and Christianity. We have explored the main themes of each religion and how faith impacts our world. We have also enjoyed developing our team-work and leadership skills through our Friday Mornings of outdoor learning and weekly Cardiff Met trips alongside a visit from the Cardiff Dragons. 

 

In literacy we have been exploring how to write a setting description, using our talk for writing texts as a base we have developed our creative writing techniques, learning about personification as well as the power of similes and metaphors. In Maths we have been developing our understanding of subtraction using mental strategies as well as a written method. 

 

Next half term, we are looking forward to developing our entrepreneurial skills alongside our understanding of ‘Wonderful Wales and Beyond.’ Pupils will develop their business skills as they research products and learn from Welsh artists, in order to create their own Welsh products to sell in our local community. Pupils will also explore how language connects us as they deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Welsh language. In Literacy we will continue to explore setting descriptions before moving onto character description. In maths we will be developing our multiplication and division skills. Our PE lessons will now be on a Thursday afternoon.
